Here is the list of the top new upcoming anime-based games for 2023 and 2024, from the Dragon Ball Z franchise to Attack on Titan and Avatar: The Last Airbender to the highly anticipated anime game Persona 3 and more for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, XB1, PCs, and Switch.
1. Project Mugen
It just revealed the new open-world action RPG going by the name Project Mugen, supposedly a PC to PlayStation 5 exclusive with crossplay with Android and iOS. Mugen over here is, as looks could be deceiving, quite a bit like the Justice League open world game about setting a world where humans coexist with supernatural entities. The combat in this game can be team-based, or you could say a tactical hack and slasher. The game will be fully free to play when it releases next year, 2024.
2. Wuthering Waves
Coming up behind that, we’ve got over here the long-awaited Kuro Games open world RPG Wuthering Waves, a game we’ve been waiting on its testing phase for months. The good news is it is now coming to PCs alongside mobiles; previously, it was just Android and iOS, but it’s not coming to pieces, and probably next generation consoles 2 later on. It’s a free-to-play open world action RPG in one of the biggest projects out of Korea from the same developers of Punishing Raven Gray. To accompany the good news, we’ve got a new trailer too.
3. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4
Number three, we have a Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi IV, which we hear is shaping up to be the biggest entry in the Dragon Ball series, and interestingly the last time we actually had Budokai Tenkaichi 4, it was all the way back 15 years ago and on the PlayStation. It’s a series of fighting games, and this time with a promise to bring literally every single character in The Dragon Ball Universe into a package. Games coming to PC are the next generation of consoles only sometime next year, 2024.
4. Zenless Zone Zero
Zenless Zone Zero, which happens to be the longest-awaited mobile game 2, is now coming to consoles as well, possibly early to mid-next year. The Gamescom we were witnessing these past few days brought with it some new gameplay and the word that the game is indeed in good shape if you miss out on it. This game is an open-world action RPG from the same developers of Honkai Star Rail and the famous Genshin Impact.
5. Granblue Fantasy: Relink
Now at the same time as Gamescom’s opening nightlife, Cy Games I honestly forgot how long it’s been since this game was announced, but we got a release date of February 1st, 2024, for Granblue Fantasy Relink, an action RPG game that these developers have been cooking for years. This game is quite a bit in the same style as Final Fantasy 16. It’s an open-world Japanese RPG PlayStation 5 exclusive that happens to be coming to PCs just like most PlayStation exclusives nowadays.
6. Metaphor: Reantazio
Metaphor: Refantazio is officially coming to PCs in addition to the next generation of consoles and the PlayStation 4. This announcement was made recently through a new trailer and a 2024 release window. If you are new to the metaphor games over here, it’s a series of fantasy RPG that’s been directed by the same team that did most Persona games three, four, and even five, and this is a sequel to a very well-received game from almost a decade ago.
7. Aikode
Around the same time last year, number seven, we announced AIKODE, a soul developer’s first project, which we thought to be funny but not really. I mean, AIKODE has been in the making for like two years apparently, and what we do know is that it’s an active development and will be coming to PCS exclusively upon release. This is the first time we’re missing AIKODE game because we got an update and a new trailer, which you will see above.
8. Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable
If you’re a fan of Attack on Titans, you probably had a clue already that the same team is making a VR game called Unbreakable, which is basically letting you get even deeper into the series from a first-person perspective in VR. We know this game is coming to Oculus Quest headsets and apparently releasing in the final quarter of 2023.
9. Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash
If you’re familiar with the shown animes, then you probably have also heard about Jujutsu Kaisen. all you need to know is that there is an action brawler in the making by Bandai Namco, and it’s the best thing the companies have made so far in this particular genre. So if you’re in for some One Versus One versus Two or even up to four multiplayer fighting games, the game’s base or story is remaining pretty faithful to the manga series. If you are familiar with them, you get about 15 characters to choose from, and the game is going to be coming on PCs and all consoles as well.
10. Sword Art Online: Last Recollection
Bandai Namco released two more trailers for Sword Art Online, which is just another JRPG that folks have been making for years. I mentioned in my last recollection that with just a cinematic last year, the game is now coming to basically all consoles on October 6 this year, delivering much refined gameplay as opposed to previous iterations, a new story arc, and a lot more.
11. Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Quest for Balance
Avatar: The Last Airbender Quest from Balance will launch for Switch, PCs and all other consoles on September 22nd, 2023, for the price of 50 bucks. The word just came through from game mail in addition to a new gameplay trailer. The new avatar game is a solo and two-player local and online multiplayer game with more than 15 stages to play through and a nice little cast of characters to choose from.
12. Persona 5 Tactica
Moving on, we have Persona 5 Antarctica, a tactical role-playing entry in the long-running franchise that happens to be coming to every single gaming console. On November 17 this year, the difference, as opposed to previous iterations, is that instead of allowing a character to take a turn in another one’s place, you can now basically swap with a party member who wasn’t in the fight before when someone’s dead. Not just that, you can even now do chain combos, and a lot more Persona 5 is coming to mobile devices as well.
13. Star Ocean: The Second Story
Star Ocean: The Second Story is also releasing on November 2nd, 2023, and it’s coming to PC’s PlayStation consoles and even the Nintendo Switch. This new Star Ocean, if you just missed out on it, is a 2D 3D, or rather HD, to the likes of Triangle Strategy or Square Enix games, meaning the game’s background is in full 3D whilst the characters are in two-dimensional. Anyway, your company has good news: we got a new trailer too.
14. One Punch Man: World
Crunchroll came up with an update on One Punch Man World, which is their biggest hack and slasher and one of the biggest multiplayer action games of 2023. But they’ve been cooking since like three years already. The game, in addition to mobile, is now coming to PCS this year with crossplay support as well. Anyway, I’ve actually mentioned One Punch Man, which is an absolute gem amongst the upcoming anime games based on their anime series. You can pre-register One Punch man: World now on its official website and stay tuned for a final release date by the end of the year 2023.
15. Fate/Samurai Remnant
KOEI TECMO Studios, which happens to be the same team behind all Fate games if you haven’t heard yet, is developing an action RPG in partnership with Omega Force, and Tecmo is going by the name Fate Samurai Remains. I’ve mentioned Samurai Remnant before a few times in the channel, but the reason it’s here in the list is because we got an update trailer with gameplay and a release date of September 29th this year for PC’s Switch and the PlayStation consoles as well.
16. Persona 3 Reload
Atlas even came up with another trailer for Persona 3 Reloads, their highly anticipated turn-based jrpg, and said the game is now releasing on February 2nd next year for PCs, with both generations of consoles possibly switching as well. Now that we know that the new game will feature the same characters as Persona 3, including the richest cod version of the game, a new playable epilogue, better visuals, and new voiceovers, this is basically Persona 3 Reaper.
17. Second Wave
On the other hand, we got another trailer for the second wave showcase and see more story of the game on Force gameplay. If you’re new to this one, second wave is a featably online multiplayer hero-based shooter and a MOBA with basically no pay-to-win like League of Legends or Dora. The game is releasing for PCs through Steam and the Xbox consoles with Game Pass in early to mid-2024.
18. Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector
And last but not least, we have Citizen Sleeper 2 Star Wars Victor. The new game will be coming as a Microsoft exclusive and into PCS and Xbox Series X only around the holidays this year. This is a tabletop RPG if you’re just new here, whereas you can expect the same dice-based gameplay except this time you’ll own a ship, build a crew, and take on contracts. Check it up, company, with great news: we’ll get a new trailer too.
