For those who are not familiar with it, Songs of Conquest is a turn-based strategy game, inspired by the classic Might and Magic series, and is currently available for $30 on Steam.
5. Gord
Coming in at number five, we have Chords once again. I mentioned this game about half a year ago, and we’ve just received our first gameplay trailer. The game is generally described as a single player adventure strategy featuring the development of societies in a fantasy-inspired historical setting. The game was revealed around two years ago, and it is now coming to PC, Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4 upon release. It’s a story-based, choice-driven game, so be sure to check it out.
S. Men of War II
At number six, following the release of the original real-time strategy game Men of War, which came out almost 15 years ago, we finally have Men of War 2. It’s coming from the same developers and is set to be released for PC only, later this year. The game will be delivering a new chapter in the story and bringing more units with different specializations. It also promises better visuals and audio, as well as a multiplayer option.
7. Tempest Rising
Coming in at number seven, we have a game by the developer “Teach Your Nordicate”, called “Horse Racing”. This is one of the most anticipated real-time strategies in the making since the beginning of last year. For those who missed out or have been waiting, the game is only coming to PC in a few months from now. Horse Racing is described as a classic baseball game.
8. Jagged Alliance 3
Next up, THU Nordic announced only a month ago that one of the best updates of December last year is Jagged Alliance 3, a series of strategy games that date back more than 25 years. It is now in the making and said to be coming out for PC in the future. Unfortunately, no release date or release window for Jagged Alliance 3 was given upon reveal, only that it is improved in every single department. Check it out in case you missed it.
9. Builder of Egypt
Coming up next, we have the much-awaited, possibly the longest-awaited game on the list – Builders of Egypt. The game is said to be coming our way either late spring or summer of 2023. It will be coming to PC only. For those of you new to the game, it’s a city-building and economic strategy game taking place in the Nile Valley, where your biggest goal is to become a part of history by raising and ranking your city the way you want. Check it out, this game actually has a free demo on Steam.
10. Manor Lords
I’m not entirely sure, but I believe it’s been almost four years, or maybe three and a half since the reveal, but for those who are unfamiliar, Mainer Lords is a medieval strategy, city-building, and action tactical real-time game, coming to PC’s in mid or late 2023. It promises to have a huge emphasis on larger scale combats, rather than most strategy games. Take a look at the trailer.
11. Immortal: Gates of Pyre
Announced in March 2021, we have Immortal Gates of Pyre. This game is a free-to-play, big scale, real-time strategy battler in which not only do you get the feel of a medieval style real war feeling, but you also have the option to go to war with Mages and fantasy elements. Your job is to loot runes and relics, level up, and eventually conquer any map. The game is playable both online and offline, and is coming to PC only by the end of the year.
12. Stormgate
With its reveal, we have Stormgate, a PC exclusive, limited to Steam, free-to-play, real-time strategy game revolving around the war between humanity and an onslaught of Alien Invaders. For those who missed the announcement, the game includes a campaign that can be played alone or in co-op, as well as casual and competitive PVP and Co-op modes, both online and offline. Check it out.
13. God Sworn
God Sworn, on the other hand, will be described by the developers as a classic mythological, real-time strategy game where you get to experience a fantasy retelling of the Northern Crusades or pagan gods and their tribes fighting against Crusaders and armies of Heaven. In my opinion, it has similarities to Heroes of Might and Magic and Warcraft games of the past. The game is said to be a PC, Steam exclusive, releasing sometime later this year.
14. Fata Deum
Sitting on a Kickstarter campaign for roughly two years, we have a city/base building strategy game called Fated DM. Though the game has already gathered all of its initial goals on the campaign, you can still show it some love in case it reminds you of any source of nostalgia. Fated DM is a PC only game, set to release sometime later this year, and in any case, this is how it looks.
