I reviewed the HP EliteBook 840 a couple of months ago, which was running the Intel variant, and I have to say, I love the all-metal premium design that the EliteBooks offer. Design and Upgrade Options
In terms of portability, HP EliteBook 845 G7 laptop weighs 2.93 pounds, which is quite good, especially for business users who do some traveling.
HP EliteBook 845 G7 boasts a thin and sleek design. The EliteBook have excellent build quality, and the all-metal design is both durable and visually appealing. I love the silver look of laptop; it’s very sleek and premium.
HP made it relatively easy to access the internals of elite 845 g7 laptop. Just remove the screws, pop off the bottom plate, and you’re in. Underneath the plate, you’ll find two slots for the RAM sticks, allowing for easy upgrades. The SSD slot and Wi-Fi card are also user-upgradable, which is great news. With Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, HP EliteBook 845 G7 laptop is quite future-proof in terms of connectivity.
Hinge, Keyboard and Touchpad
You can open the lid with just one finger, which is a testament to the build quality. Additionally, there’s a shutter switch on top of the lid, providing more security and privacy by turning off the webcam. And on the keyboard deck, you’ll find a fingerprint scanner. The keyboard itself is one of the highlights of HP Elitebook laptop. It offers good key travel, tactile feedback, and a multi-stage backlight, allowing you to work in dark or dimly lit environments. I particularly appreciate the programmable f11 key, which can be customized to launch applications, websites, files, or folders. It’s highly programmable and customizable, which is something I absolutely love.
As for the touchpad, hp elitebook 845 G7 a precision touchpad made of glass, and it’s highly responsive. Two-finger scrolling is smooth, and all the gestures work. HP done a great job with the touchpad. Additionally, 845 G7 laptop includes a trackpoint, which is very responsive and great for scrolling through the operating system.
HP EliteBook 845 G7 Display
One of the best features of hp elitebook 845 g7 laptop is the display. 845 G7 come with 14-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920×1080 and 16:9 aspect ratio. The 16:9 aspect ratio is great for media, such as watching Netflix, Amazon, or YouTube. EliteBook 845 G7 won’t be any black bars on the top and bottom of the screen like you would have with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
The display itself is very crisp and bright. It’s a 400-nit low-power display, and I measured it to reach a brightness of 377 nits, which is quite high. The matte display is a bonus because it reduces glare and reflections. The color gamut coverage is also excellent. If you’re a content creator who works with applications like Lightroom, Photoshop, or video editing software, this display will definitely get the job done.
HP EliteBook 845 G7 Webcam
Moving on to the webcam, it’s located on the HP EliteBook 845 and is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750 processor. It has been quite impressive. Webcam offer a resolution of 720p at 30 frames per second, which is decent. However, the camera does come with a shutter switch, providing added privacy and security.
HP EliteBook 845 G7 Ports
HP EliteBook 845 G7 have a Kensington lock port, two USB-A ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a smart card reader on the left side. The right side, you’ll find the nano SIM card slot, where you can insert your LTE SIM if you opt for the LTE connectivity. You also have an HDMI port for display output and, finally, the power port.
Sound
Now, let’s discuss the sound. hp elitebook have two top-firing speaker grilles, which I personally prefer over the more traditional bottom-facing speakers commonly found in laptops. The top-firing speakers provide better sound quality as they fire towards you, resulting in improved sound projection. The volume on 480 laptop is decent, capable of filling up a nice-sized room quite nicely. Additionally, there is a hint of bass, and the mids sound pretty good. Overall, these Bang & Olufsen speakers are actually quite impressive.
HP EliteBook 845 G7 Battery Life
HP EliteBook 845 G7 performed really well in terms of battery life, achieving 12 hours and 15 minutes on my continuous web surfing test over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. This translates into all-day battery life, which is excellent. The extended battery life can be attributed to the 53-watt-hour battery capacity and the efficiency of the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U processor. The low-power display also contributes to the impressive battery performance. HP EliteBook 845 G7 laptop does not disappoint when it comes to delivering long-lasting, all-day battery life.

The performance of 845 G7 has been excellent, which comes as no surprise. The Ryzen 7 processor in many other laptops that I reviewed, and they all performed exceptionally well. when it comes to productivity tasks such as Microsoft Office, email, and web browsing. Everything run smoothly and efficiently.
Moreover, 845 G7 laptop is surprisingly capable of gaming, despite not being specifically designed as a dedicated gaming machine. While it primarily focuses on business needs, it still offers a very capable gaming experience. For those who enjoy gaming, hp 845 g7 laptop is definitely up to the task. It deliver playable frame rates, as indicated by the numbers in the more popular gaming titles.
Thermal and Cooling
Now, let’s talk about the cooling system and temperatures on 845 G7 laptop. I was very impressed with it. Typically, other laptops with a similar thin and light design tend to experience thermal throttling fairly quickly, meaning they reduce their clock speeds to prevent overheating. However, 845 G7 laptop maintained good clock speeds for quite some time as the temperature rose. It took a significant amount of time before it started to thermal throttle. This indicates that the thermal management on this laptop is very well done.
In terms of surface temperatures, the laptop never became overly hot or uncomfortable. The cooling system did excellent job of keeping temperatures under control. When it comes to the fan, it will kick in under heavy loads, and you can notice its presence. However, it’s not excessively loud, which is a positive aspect. Under heavy load, the fan noise is noticeable but not to a bothersome extent. Overall, the cooling system of this laptop is well-designed and effectively manages temperatures.

What do I think about the HP EliteBook 845 G7 running the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro? I absolutely love it. On the 845 G7, you get a great combination of performance and efficiency. The AMD Ryzen 7 Pro offers excellent performance while maintaining good battery life. The thermals on this laptop are also very impressive, with minimal thermal throttling even under heavy loads. It’s remarkable.
Not only can you use 845 G7 for productivity work, but it’s also capable of handling gaming. The keyboard is excellent, providing a comfortable typing experience. The all-metal design gives it a premium and durable feel. I particularly appreciate the top-facing speakers, as they deliver good sound quality and volume. The Bang & Olufsen speakers add to the overall audio experience.
Moving on to the display, the 14-inch matte display is fantastic. HP EliteBook 485 G7 a low-power 400nit display, and even though I measured it at 377 nits. it’s still very bright and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The display offers great contrast, deep blacks, and covers the color gamut well. If you’re a content creator, this display is definitely worth considering.
Considering all these features, the HP EliteBook 845 G7 is a great deal at around $1600. While it may not be cheap, it’s important to note that this is an EliteBook, a premium high-end device geared towards businesses. It’s wonderful to see AMD making its way into these premium devices.
